I’m in love, I’m in love and I DON’T CARE WHO KNOWS IT!
With food that is, and shopping for it, eating it, looking at it, you get the picture.
On the reals, this post should really be called: My love affair with Trader Joe’s. Because basically we’re married.
I think one of the most important things about healthy eating is being prepared and having healthy foods available for you to eat at all times. My philosophy is that if you don’t buy it you won’t eat it. Pretty simple right? But sometimes when shopping I have this little alter ego on my shoulder screaming at me to buy ALL THE CHOCOLATE, sometimes I listen to her (see below) and other times I’m able to tune her out.
In college I loved going to Trader Joe’s because they have tons of healthy foods and are relatively cheap. Since I buy mostly produce that goes bad rather quickly, I usually go to the store once a week to stock up on fruits and veggies. I’ve been able to cut down the time I spend on my Trader Joe’s adventure by having a set list of things I need so I can get in and out faster than my usual hour-long
therapy sessions shopping trip.
Here’s an idea of what I usually buy to prepare myself for a healthy week of clean meals!
- greens: kale, spinach, arugula, pea shoots
- vine ripened tomatoes
- bell peppers
- baby broccoli
- frozen figs and blueberries
- sweet potatoes
- brussels sprouts
Grains, Dairy, Nuts
- Ezekiel Bread
- Unsweetened Vanilla Almond Milk
- Crunchy Almond Butter
- Flax & Chia Peanut Butter
- Almond meal
- Multi-grain hot cereal
- Roasted unsalted almonds
- Organic free range chicken breasts
- Farm fresh eggs
- Coconut water
- Unsweetened coconut flakes
- Organic Fair-Trade Coffee Beans (the most important thing on this list)
- Dark Chocolate (70% or more)
And one last thing…
Cookie butter ice cream. I swear it grew legs and jumped into my cart…
I walked by it like three times and on the fourth lap I decided to buy it. And it was entirely worth it. I don’t think “clean eating” should be an all or nothing type thing and because of that I’m sure to leave a little room for sweet treats like these every once in a while. Also a world without ice cream is one that I do not want to be a part of. Ever.
I agree with this whole heartidly.^^
Cheers to TJ’s for being my
boyfriend favorite place to shop for healthy foods on a budget! (I love you)
